Gut Explorer Pro
Gut Explorer Pro
We offer cutting edge stool microbiome analysis for anyone interested to discover the types of bacteria in their gut so that diet and lifestyle can be tailored accordingly. This information can be used for general wellbeing, sports performance and quality of life. We offer comprehensive diet and lifestyle recommendations focused on the latest food science and microbiome research.
Our sample kit contains everything you need to hygienically collect your stool sample including a test tube which contains a preservative that will maintain the integrity of the microbial DNA for multiple months in ambient temperatures. We then send the kit to our NATA accredited lab where the sample is reviewed for the microbial DNA quality.
A postage paid return satchel is also included. In addition you will be sent a wellbeing and lifestyle survey to complete electronically.
We extract the bacterial DNA from your stool sample. Then, we discover and quantify the groups of bacteria present in your gut i.e. Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, Actinobacteria, Tenericutes, Cyanobacteria, Fusobacteria, others.
We will then conduct a deeper analysis to identify different genus and species of Peace Keeping bacteria and Opportunistic Pathogens in your sample
Peace Keepers (including butyrate producers)
These bacteria may produce metabolites beneficial to your wellbeing e.g. Short chain fatty acids like butyrate, which is the primary energy source for our gut epithelial cells and important for preventing leaky gut.
- Akkermansia muciniphila
- Faecalibacterium prausnitzii
- Oxalobacter formigenes
- Collinsella aerofaciens
These bacteria may produce toxins detrimental to your wellbeing e.g. Endotoxins like lipopolysaccharide, methane and hydrogen sulphide. Production of these metabolites may lead to systemic inflammation, bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort and gastrointestinal distress.
- Bilophila wadsworthia
- Helicobacter pylori
An easy to understand report explaining the groups of bacteria in your gut will be provided in approximately 4 - 6 weeks from receiving your stool sample.
This report includes the relative abundance of key bacterial groups, a bacterial diversity score (from 1 to 10) and a Prevotella to Bacteroides Ratio: relative abundance of Prevotella species to Bacteroides species. Those on the high-fibre diet with a high Prevotella to Bacteroides ratio (>0.01) lost an average of 5 kg of body fat, one and a half kg more than those on the diet with a low ratio.
